До основних напрямків наукової діяльності кафедри належать:

  • Фізика низькотемпературної плазми та газові розряди;
  • Фізика високотемпературної плазми та керований термоядерний синтез;
  • Плазмова електроніка;
  • Фізика інтенсивних пучків заряджених частинок;
  • Взаємодія плазми з речовиною;
  • Плазмові та пучково-плазмові технології обробки поверхні твердого тіла;
  • Діагностика плазми та плазмових технологічних процесів;
  • Радіаційна стійкість діелектричних матеріалів.

Дослідження на кафедрі ведуться з використанням стандартного та унікального оригінального обладнання, яке змонтовано на стандартних вакуумних постах з різними вакуумними умовами. Для створення та дослідження плазмового середовища використовують різноманітні джерела пучків заряджених частинок та плазми на базі тліючого розряду, вакуумно-дугового розряду, розрядів у схрещених полях, ЕЦР-розряду, плазмово-пучкового розряду.
